Maxmillion – Max was an owner release to IABHR. He is now happy in his new home with lots of horses, goats, and his new sister Sierra. After checking in with his new family, they report he is still doing great, and is a wonderful addition to their family. His nickname is... Maxypad! LOL.
He loves having his picture taken, and is a very happy hound. |

Gracie – Gracie was an owner release to IABHR. She traveled from Des Moines, Iowa to the big city of Chicago to meet her new family. She has completed obedience training, and loves to play at the local beach in the water.
Gracie has some funny quirks to her, she loves to pounce on squeaker toys with her foot when she is upset. Also runs races with herself on the area rugs... never going out of bounds. |

Abby – Abby was given up by her former owners, and we were glad to get her, but not as much as her new family. She has become a huge part of her new family, joining big sister Katie. Abby even participated in Maxwell, Iowa’s first ever Basset Waddle last August. Abby’s new owners tell us all the time how happy there were able to get her, and now can’t imagine a day without her. IABHR member, Susan L helped with Abby’s adoption, and still gets to see her from time to time around town. She said, it’s so nice to see one of the dogs I helped, still excited to see me, running with a tail wagging. But the best part, is when they go home with their family, their tails are still wagging. You know they are happy and well taken care of. |

Gibson– Gibson was found near Winterset, abondoned. A local vet picked him and called Iowa Basset for some help. While in the care of the vet, Gibson had a little bit of needed surgery done, which Iowa Basset paid for. Fostered in central Iowa, he was placed in a home, and then was returned to rescue due to the family not be able to keep him. Placed again in eastern Iowa early this year, he is doing wonderful. Very happy with his new family, and his new family is very happy with him. They also found out that doorbells on the TV make him go nuts. Runs all over the house barking. So they don't watch Jeopardy. They do have a new Doxie puppy, and she enjoys teasing Gibson a lot! |

Miss Sadie Mae- Sadie was one of 3 puppies IABHR had taken in. She was in her first parade in Maxwell, Iowa, and adopted shortly after by a wonderful couple. We get updates on her very often, and it's so nice to see how well she has grown. Her other 2 sisters were adopted as well, and both doing great too.
From her new owners... Well what can I say other than Miss Sadie Mae has brought so much joy to our home and our lives. After losing our other basset, Bailey, after 13 years our home just seemed so empty. We found Iowa Basset Rescue and we believe the best way to honor Bailey was to rescue another Basset. Sadie is now 1 year old but still acts much like a puppy. She definitely has attached herself to me as her mother and Jeff as her playmate. She absolutley loves to go for walks and rides in the car. Jeff says she's a stubborn little girl that has to have her own special lazyboy chair. She will stare at me with those special soulful eyes and I know what she is saying, "get out of my chair". We love her so much!! |

Miller - Miller was brought into rescue during the winter of 2010. he finally found a forever home south of Des Moines, and is very happy with his new family. He loves peanut butter, and course NAPPING whenever he gets a chance.
From his new family... Loves walks, he gets excited if he even hears the leash move, he loves cuddling... 65 pound lap dog. Heavy sleeper likes to get comfy and sprawls out on his back alot. Smiles all the time, Miller has been a great addition to our family.

Hank-Hankerdoodle, as he is called by his new family. Probably the funniest thing they told us about Hank is; as with all hounds, he loves to dig, which isn't a big deal to them, except for the fact that they live next to a cemetary, and he's already exposed 2 tree roots in the back yard. So the joke is... they hope he doesn't accidentally dig anybody up... hahahahha.
From the new owners... He is extremely well behaved and we couldn't ask for a better life companion. Also, we have a Jeep Wrangler, with the top off, and Hank loves the attention he gets when he rides in the back seat. Everyon we pass points and laughs at him hanging out in the back seat. Hank is an absolute joy to our lives, and we are grateful to Iowa Basset for finding him for us.

JJ - JJ was taken away from his previous owners, and IABHR was called in to help. he wasn't treated very well in his first home, and needed some help with his manners. He tried one home, but it just wasn't making him happy. Then he finally got into a home and is loved by lots of his owners grandkids! As you can tell on his adoption day, hemade himself quite at home with his new owners, even offering to help drive home. We were told his favorite treat is Cheetos.

Scout - Scout traveled through 3 states to get to IABHR. He was adopted into a very loving home, but changes for the family meant they couldn't keep him. IBHR was glad to help Scout out again, and he was adopted by another family. He joins older brother Marley, and just LOVES going to the local dog park almost every day. He did have some training issues with barking at first, but the new owner stuck with it, and she is so glad she did, as he settled into the family so well. She mentioned his favorite spot in right there in bed next to her with his own pillow.

Mr. Brazzle or Mr B, as we call him came to live with us Novermber 2010 after we lost our beloved beagle Oscar. Our little white bischon, Levi, had stopped eating and needed a friend. Brazzel has settled in well here at the house. His little brother and him are inseperatable and always getting into one thing or another. They have also learned the more they go out to potty the more treats they get. I think they are a little spoiled at this point.
We love Brazzel and are so glad he has become one of the family. The one thing he still has to learn is he isn't a lap dog and that he weighs 65 pounds and crushes us. But, on the flip side we did buy a big cuddle chair so now he and Levi can sit in the chair with mom. He also needs to learn to sleep in another bed! Having a 6'2' husband, a 15 pound little white dog, and 65 pound basset doesn't give us much room.
His sisters Janae and Jenna love him as much as Todd and I. We never know what to expect from dumb and dumber as we call the dogs. A day doesn't go by where they don't make us laugh at something they do.
I am so glad we contacted you guys and got Mr. B. Oh, did I mention they also were great in helping out my friend when he couldn't keep his dog Casey? I sent him to them and they have been great with her as she is a lovely dog.. We see pictures of her on the site all the time and she looks wonderful.. |

Miss Iris - We adopted Millie back in March 2011 and after some consideration re-named her as IRIS. She shares her home with Larry and Jeanne, as well as fur sisters - Fergus the west highland terrier; Golda the pug; and a couple of cats - Squeaky Adele and Yazmine.
As you can see from the pictures, Iris is happy and contented and gets along famously with everyone. And of course, her favorite spot is on one of the couches where naps are the primary occupation. We've taken her to some obedience and she is in a group class with Fergus and Golda, as well as numerous other dogs. She tries real hard to do the sit, stay, lie down, and recall ... sometimes cocking her head and curling her lower lip in concentration to try and get it right. All of the other dog owners at group class marvel at how attractive she is ... but then we and you know that! |

Miss Stella - We got Stella at about 5 months. She is named after a famous local burger joint. She will be 2 this August. She absolutely loves everyone (people and dogs). She loves belly rubs and wrestling in our bed. She is quite the howler and doesnt mind showing it when she gets excited. She will walk up to anyone and flop right to her back for a belly rub. |

Miss Belle - After losing our previous basset, Abby, to cancer, our home was just too quiet and we missed having the companionship of a dog. Belle came into the rescue just as we were trying to find the right dog for us. Cindy called with information about Belle and she sounded like a good match for us. We first saw her at the parade in Maxwell in August 2010, and adopted her that day! She is a wonderful 7-year-old basset, very laid back and mellow. She doesn't bark much, just when she thinks someone is on her property that shouldn't be, or when she gets the crazies. She loves watching out the window each morning as her Dad goes to work, and waits for him to come home each day in the same spot. She has become a huge part of our household. She loves to cuddle on the couch with us, go to the dog park, and has discovered a new favorite - peanut butter dog treats her Mom makes for her! Her vet's office can't believe the change in her in the last year. While she is still a bit timid around strangers, she is much more outgoing and loves other dogs and is great with our grandkids. We just completed obedience classes and the instructor was amazed at how well we did (that basset stubbornness is just a rumor!). Thanks for finding us the perfect dog :) Barb & Michael Morris
| | | Tucker-
Tucker was an owner release to the IABHR. He actually came as a surprise
present
to his owner for an anniversary. See his soon to be owner wanted to get a
basset hound for so long, but at the time he was not living in a place
he could
have a dog. So IABHR helped over months to plan the surprise. During
this time
the soon to be owner begged and pleaded to start looking for a furry
family
friend since they were going to be moving to an apartment that allowed
dogs,
but was always shot down and given excuses on why and how it would not
work to
welcome a hound so soon. One week after the move the weekend finally
came where
Tucker rode all the way down from Sioux City, IA to Lincoln, NE. When Tucker got
to the apartment building he pulled up the three flights of stairs like
he knew
exactly where he was going for the surprise. The door was banged on and,
even
though he won’t admit it, once the door was opened and the new owner
realized what
was in front of him it brought tears of joy to his eyes. The new owner
couldn’t
believe he was tricked into thinking he wasn’t going to be able to get a
hound
for a while. Since then Tucker has become one of the family and is
spoiled with
belly rubs and treats galore, but none of them beat what he recently
received for
his birthday. Tucker recently received one of the most expensive
birthday gifts
the owner had ever given. Tucker now has a huge fully fenced in backyard
so
that he can chase bunny rabbits, birds, and flies. Coming soon he may
even get
a girlfriend
